MCYS Controversial ‘Hopeless’ Ad February 29, 2012

Filed under: Uncategorized — khairin @ 4:25 pm

Controversial ad in question.

When I saw this ad, I was speechless. I couldn’t believe that this was actually an ad by MCYS, a government ministry by itself. Tasteless, isn’t it? Really, what were they thinking?

I’m pretty sure any normal person who sees this ad would think that the ‘hopeless’ was referring to the disabled. That was my first impression. This being an advertisement, don’t first impressions mean everything? Some people have tried to defend the ad by saying that ‘hopeless’ wasn’t meant to portray a negative connotation of the disabled, but that’s what I (and many other people who saw the ad) thought. As an advertisement, I think that it doesn’t matter what the ad was trying to convey — what matters was that it conveyed the wrong message and should be reason enough for MCYS to pull the ad from circulation immediately.

MacBook Pro & School February 10, 2009

Filed under: Blog Updates,Real Life — khairin @ 5:55 pm

Hey everyone!

I haven’t been posting for quite a while cos’ I was busy in school and all that. Well, now I’m back. I don’t usually blog much unless I’ve nothing better to do or there’s something I want to rant about. So first up, my dad got a MacBook Pro! That’s so awesome, right? It’s the unibody 15″ MBP, and it’s sleeker than the previous plain version! Here’s a compilation of the pictures.

mac_compilation

Nice, right? Couldn’t resist placing my iPhone beside it. They look like a match made in heaven! xD I’m using it to type right now. Okay, moving on to other matters.

We know all our subject teachers now and I’ve no complaints except for my History teachers. History is easy to understand but the way the teacher teaches just isn’t, comfortable to me. Or the rest of the class. Which is probably why they talk and show every time it’s History. And we have 2 Math teachers. Must be because we made soo much noise last year. Mrs Goh cannot teach 2E! She takes the wrong approach and her methods just don’t click with us. Mr Daniel Lin, our form-cum-Math teacher is better. He’s nice and doesn’t scream and shout. He also takes the effort to write out the explanation in easy-to-understand ways so it’s easier for me to learn under him. I actually passed the Math class test because of his explanations. So maybe Sec 2 will be better.

And Ukasyah disturbing Mr Teo is priceless! He’s very sporting too ;) That’s it for today – till next time! Leave a comment if you have any thoughts to share :)

Chinese New Year Celebration January 23, 2009

The CNY celebration was great! Seri, Zahirah, Raidah, Wei Zhi, Qi Long, Mr Daniel Lin and me stayed almost every day this week until like, 5+ to decorate the class!

It was so much work, but it was fun too. There was one day where the DM said that the school was closing in 1 minute and there was a flurry of activities, man! We did something we’re not allowed and for obvious reasons, I’m not mentioning it. SEKRITZ. Here’s some pics of the last-minute preparations..

Yeah. That’s Nicholas and Elisha with the stupid Cai Shen hat I had to wear with JL. -_- Anyway, the concert was really too long. Someone should tell that to the school. I was almost half asleep until the guy from Sec 3E came out with the “diablo” and the Usher music. Awaken at last.

And oh, the day before, it was my MOM’S BIRTHDAY! Happy belated birthday, mama. We went to Swensen’s at Bukit Panjang Plaza and my mother thought that my 2 sisters and I weren’t going cause we told her we were going to come back late and then we surprised her. xD

There are some more photos. Only those who have me as a friend on Facebook can see it! :D

Benvenuto ’08 December 30, 2008

Filed under: Real Life — khairin @ 4:59 am

So, I just had to blog about this. The event happened on the 22nd and 23rd Dec @ South View Primary School. On the first day, the highlights were mostly the stations the participants had to go to and the lunch trip to Lot One. I know, we find such entertainment on something so small when you’re bored.

Unfortunately, I reached the limit for this month’s picture uploading. I’ll post some below.

On the second day, it was fun because we had to switch from the Artz Hub to the Oasis Room, so we (the volunteers) had sofa & A/C nearest and there was an invisible line where the rest couldn’t cross cause we had info on the day’s events. And so begins the water fight. Here are some pics.

The last one was really funny cos I had such good timing. And I also didn’t get wet excessively because halfway thru the game I held up my camera. Wow, shield.

Go to my Flickr Photostream to see more

And oh, if you’re from SVPS Batch 2007 contact me to join SVYA! :)

New Year & Updates December 29, 2008

Filed under: Blog Updates,Real Life — khairin @ 1:53 am

I just realised I haven’t been updating my blog. Still got 100+ hits. LOL. Thank you random people.

Anyway, school is starting really soon and I don’t want the holidays to end. Extension on my holiday, teacher? It’s gonna be a drag. I don’t mind studying new stuff but it’s another thing that I’m worried about. Is it gonna affect my grade?

Moving on to.. normal and happier stuff, my family and a few relatives went for a holiday recently. Nothing special, just a short trip to Malaysia to forget everything.

Here’s some pics from Flickr. I can’t be bothered to upload the rest. It takes a damn long time. Stupid servers. Here’s 2 pics I managed to put up in Flickr. When I’m too free I’ll upload the rest.

I’m not in any of them, unfortunately. Those are hidden waay deep for those stalkers. ;) Isnt Mikhail (the baby) just sooo cute? And oh, my parents & relatives planned holidays for January already before school even began.

In other news, I finally got what I wanted – an iPhone 3G! Thank youu Ayah & Mama. I scored 7 As for EOY exams. :P So if any of you don’t have my number, send me a message via e-mail/Facebook. Request friend if you haven’t!

I’ve been busy during the hols.. actually, didn’t do much except switch on the com. And because I like lists, here’s what I did:

- watched Twilight w/ cousins & aunt

- read Twilight, New Moon (boring!), Eclipse, Breaking Dawn and starting on Midnight Sun

- went for Benvenuto ’08. Will post pics when I have nothing better to do

- sleep & relax

- played around with iPhone – installed apps etc.

I’m gonna stop blogging now. Once Flickr starts being fast, I’ll post the pics here.

CCAs October 27, 2008

So, at the beginning of the school year, on the third day of our Orientation, we were required to select a CCA that would stick with us throughout the whole year. It was compulsory for all Sec 1s to go through a selection process to identify potential shooters in our midst. All of it sounded exciting at first, with all the loud bangs and the aura of concentration in the range, I thought it was the perfect CCA for me.

Now, I’m starting to reconsider. I don’t hate shooting itself. It’s the environment that I’m uncomfortable with. For example, the coach, Mr Rahim, is a great guy except that he only pays attention to the ones who “often” come to training, like, unusually more than they’re supposed to. The ones who come every day are the ones who are favored and known. Some of them are friendly, true. Like the Captain. I used to think he was unfriendly because I seldom talked to him but after a while (and after Xin Yi’s assurances), I began to see him as more friendlier. However, something that really got me peeved last week was that Mr Rahim forgot my name! He thought I was one of those new Sec 1s who were just brought in. That REALLY pissed me off and I grabbed my bag and left the range. I enjoy shooting, I really do. But it’s the environment that I really can’t stand. For instance, the clayshooting outing. I felt really left out because every one else were seniors (whom I’ve never talked to). I didn’t know Iman was there. If not, I would have sat with her. So there I was, alone, leaving the seat beside me empty that no one took. I took out my Harry Potter book and started reading it – for the fifth time. Also, the official training sessions are like, once or twice a week. I don’t like to come every day because that would obstruct others from having a chance to train.

So now, I’m really torn. Should I quit Shooting Club and maybe join FMU or Library? They’re both interesting. But my dad’s showing me an article about a girl who aced some weird shooting competition.

WHAT SHOULD I DO? ARGH!!

Games and how it dominates October 19, 2008

Filed under: Real Life — khairin @ 2:21 pm

I’m sure everyone has played games before. Even those non-hardcore players. Stumbled upon games, referred by a friend or even introduced by your parents. Ranging from those socialising avatar games such as Habbo to more advanced MMORPGs such as World of Warcraft. But, I’ve come to realise that several of us teenagers have absolutely no brain of their own. Again, some think that the world can be saved by swishing a twig you found on the floor and expecting some fiery sparks to erupt out and twirl around whatever is threatening the safety of Earth. Boy, if that really did work, we wouldn’t be here facing the financial crisis.

Games vary. There are those games that are commonly played on the PC. Some games are played by buying game consoles such as the popular Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. But we’ll stick with the ones which are played on the PC. Being in a new school, there’s no doubt that the people around me are finding interesting games to play with when they’re bored with our Math teacher. They discuss games, and especially more often in this period of time when the exam results are out and the stress is gone from everybody’s head. All around me, the so-called ‘clique’ of boys who play World of Warcraft and sometimes even the shunned MapleStory. They get shunned like the game they play (MapleStory). Not that I’m against it but, you know people, they just follow what the crowds say. If one proclaims that Tetris is superior to World of Warcraft and the people don’t know what Tetris is, they’ll just agree so they don’t get ‘left out’.

Personally, I don’t know why it matters so much. Whether you play that certain game or not, so what? My classmates seem to think that if they don’t know what game you’re playing, they’ll dismiss it as lame. Endless discussions of who ‘pwned’ who in yesterday’s siege pop up. It seems that all they care about is games. For example, I play an avatar socialising game called ‘Habbo’. One of the more fantastic games ever. And those whom I’ve mentioned above say it’s boring. Do you know what my retort is? ‘You don’t play it because those who think it’s boring have no socialising skillz!’ Ha. In your face.

Hari Raya October 1, 2008

Filed under: Real Life — khairin @ 2:25 pm

It’s Hari Raya Woot! Finally, the end of fasting month. Sure, it was kind of fun sitting in class during recess chatting with Desi, Rahim & Iman. With the occasional disturbance from Hui Ho and Elisha. But still – YAY for drinking during exams! :D I forget everything when doing the paper but after that, the ravaging thirst will come back. Also, during Ramadhan, I’ll be sleeping half the day because the trip home from school is exhausting! So I’ll be sleeping until its time for buka, or breaking fast. Drinking galore!

Now I’m at home in my sister’s room typing this out. Adri is using the computer outside, playing Counter Strike. Seriously, what fun is Counter Strike? It makes me vomit sometimes because it’s rapid movement/twisting of screens can give a normal person a headache. I want to delete the bots. What virus could be lurking in them? :o

On to exams, English was a wee bit tricky, dreading summary as usual. Ukasyah told me that Mrs Yip’s Hi-5, she’ll say, “Let me summarise today…”. LOL! I mean, sure you summarise it, but not physically like, you circle important points and paraphrase. I mean, if you do that, you’re an English freak! Even I’m not like that. Malay was so-so. Even Desi said it was hard, though. And she’s the best in class! History, was fine, but Ms Lin set it. She teaches History for the N/A and her way of setting the questions is different from what Mr Mohamad taught us, so we were stumped and didn’t know where to put the conclusion. Darrrn herr!

I’m off to my grandmother’s house, see ya!

Birthday is coming~ August 28, 2008

So, my birthday’s almost coming! Unfortunately mine this year doesn’t fall within the school holiday boundary. Booo! On the bright side, mine’s a day earlier than Felicia’s birthday. Not that it matters much. Anyway, typing on this laptop is a real chore. If I tap on  the sides it don’t work. *backspace backspace* For those who don’t know, my birthday is on the 10th September. Pressies please!

I also got my results today, which was happy but sad at the same time. I scored 5 A1 (distinction) and 1 A2. Not that bad but I also failed my Math! AHHHH! Nooooo! But ok, whatever. I should be happy with what I got.

Tomorrow. I don’t want to go. It’s boring Danceathon, Teacher’s Day, ACES Day, President’s Visit and all that shit. It’s so useless! I don’t have any “sports” attire to wear, okay. At most I’ll just wear home clothes and borrow Hui Ho’s racket. I’m lazy to bring my stuff.

I’ll bet you know why this is gonna be a really short post. STUPID BACKSPACE! I’ll end this post with my wishlist.

BIRTHDAY WISHLIST

  • Macbook
  • iPhone
  • Threadless apparel (www.threadless.com)
  • Non-stupid classmates
  • New clothes
  • Awesome grades
