Controversial ad in question.
When I saw this ad, I was speechless. I couldn’t believe that this was actually an ad by MCYS, a government ministry by itself. Tasteless, isn’t it? Really, what were they thinking?
I’m pretty sure any normal person who sees this ad would think that the ‘hopeless’ was referring to the disabled. That was my first impression. This being an advertisement, don’t first impressions mean everything? Some people have tried to defend the ad by saying that ‘hopeless’ wasn’t meant to portray a negative connotation of the disabled, but that’s what I (and many other people who saw the ad) thought. As an advertisement, I think that it doesn’t matter what the ad was trying to convey — what matters was that it conveyed the wrong message and should be reason enough for MCYS to pull the ad from circulation immediately.

I’m sure everyone has played games before. Even those non-hardcore players. Stumbled upon games, referred by a friend or even introduced by your parents. Ranging from those socialising avatar games such as Habbo to more advanced MMORPGs such as World of Warcraft. But, I’ve come to realise that several of us teenagers have absolutely no brain of their own. Again, some think that the world can be saved by swishing a twig you found on the floor and expecting some fiery sparks to erupt out and twirl around whatever is threatening the safety of Earth. Boy, if that really did work, we wouldn’t be here facing the financial crisis.
It’s Hari Raya Woot! Finally, the end of fasting month. Sure, it was kind of fun sitting in class during recess chatting with Desi, Rahim & Iman. With the occasional disturbance from Hui Ho and Elisha. But still – YAY for drinking during exams!
